The "Design" term refers to a process / mechanical boundary for equipment. The "Design" term is distinct from its "Operating" condition, the range where the equipment typically operates.

Hence, using the term "Design" to specify a flow, pressure, or pressure drop variable for a component is technically incorrect.

It is the "operating" condition of the equipment that we normally specify in the components (Unless we are dealing with relief valves).
